new buyer questions

2 questions - Is it customary for a sim card to be included, or not included when purchasing an iPhone on swappa? (Some listings mention sim card and others don't.) And what is the number that some sellers write on the listings, and what am I supposed to do with the number as a buyer? (I tried compatibility check, and it wasn't the right length for that...)

Hey there, and welcome to Swappa!

SIM Cards

The majority of used phones on Swappa don't come with a SIM card because once activated, SIM cards are tied to a specific user's account, and they are not transferable to your account. So if you are buying used, you should expect to take your existing SIM card from your current phone and insert it into your new phone.

However, some phones in new condition that are still sealed in their original box may contain a SIM card in the box that can be activated by a new user.

In addition, if you purchase a Mint Mobile-compatible phone, you have the option to get a free Mint Mobile SIM card and 3 months of free wireless service (a $45 value) with your purchase.

Listing Verification Photos

The numbers that you see on listings are listing verification photos, one of the many steps we take to prevent fraud. We require individual sellers on Swappa to submit verification photos in order to protect our users and make sure you get what you paid for.

You can learn more about how Swappa protects its users on our Safety page.
